Founded in 2021 by Kazuma Shigematsu, a former apparel importer and director for brands like DAIWA PIER 39, A.PRESSE is a Japanese menswear label built on a philosophy of “designing without designing.” The brand operates like a “clothing editorial department,” where a team of designers collaboratively perfects individual garments rather than creating trend-driven collections. This approach results in timeless, understated pieces inspired by American workwear, French vintage, and classic military silhouettes. A.PRESSE is defined by its obsessive focus on elevating familiar items—like denim jackets, chinos, and sweatshirts—through exceptional materials and construction. Shigematsu often reinterprets iconic styles by swapping conventional fabrics for unexpected ones, such as crafting a bomber from washed silk or a blazer from soft cashmere. This commitment to quality and subtle innovation has earned the brand a cult following among discerning menswear enthusiasts, who line up for its limited drops. Though it has no official website, A.PRESSE is carried by a curated selection of top-tier global retailers, including Union LA and Mr Porter, reflecting its strategy of deliberate, slow growth. The brand’s quiet luxury and focus on creating enduring wardrobe staples have positioned it as a significant emerging name in global menswear.
