Burberry product data

Founded by Thomas Burberry in Basingstoke, England, in 1856, Burberry began with a focus on functional outerwear designed to protect against the British weather. Its most significant innovation was the invention of gabardine in 1879, a breathable and weatherproof fabric that revolutionised rainwear and led to the creation of the iconic trench coat. Originally an item of military apparel for British officers in World War I, the trench coat—and its signature check lining, introduced in the 1920s—became an enduring symbol of British style and functionality. Over the decades, the brand has navigated shifts in cultural perception, from a symbol of classic British life to its adoption by '90s streetwear subcultures, followed by a strategic repositioning to re-establish its luxury status.
