Helmut Lang product data

Founded by self-taught Austrian designer Helmut Lang in 1986, the brand became a defining force of 1990s minimalism with its sharp, deconstructed, and utilitarian designs. Lang was a pioneer, elevating everyday garments like T-shirts and jeans to high fashion, experimenting with technical fabrics, and introducing a stark, intellectual aesthetic that stood in contrast to the era’s excess. He was also an innovator in the industry itself, being the first to livestream a runway show in 1998 and shifting the fashion calendar by showing in New York ahead of the European seasons. The brand's original identity was built on a foundation of refined tailoring, androgynous silhouettes, and subtle details like bondage-inspired straps.
