Issey Miyake product data

Founded in 1970 by Hiroshima-born designer Issey Miyake, the Tokyo-based brand is revered for its research-led approach that merges technological innovation with traditional Japanese techniques. Grounded in the core concept of “A Piece of Cloth,” the house deconstructs Western tailoring conventions to explore the relationship between the body, the garment, and the space created between them. The result is clothing that prioritizes freedom of movement, versatility, and intellectual design over fleeting trends. Miyake’s pioneering work in the late 1980s led to the creation of his most iconic contribution: a patented garment-pleating process where clothes are cut and sewn first, then permanently pleated using heat. This technique gave birth to the globally recognized Pleats Please line in 1993, offering pieces that are as practical and easy to care for as they are sculptural and elegant.
