Founded in 1846 as a collective of leather artisans in Madrid, Loewe is a Spanish luxury house with a deeply rooted history in craft. The brand’s trajectory was solidified when German craftsman Enrique Loewe Roessberg consolidated the workshop in 1872, and by 1905, it was appointed an official supplier to the Spanish Royal Court. While leather goods, such as the iconic Puzzle and Flamenco bags, remain the soul of the company, the introduction of ready-to-wear in 1965 expanded its fashion vocabulary. Since his appointment in 2013, creative director Jonathan Anderson has ushered in a transformative era, redefining Loewe with a blend of cerebral, art-inflected design and a playful, often surrealist, sensibility. Under Anderson, the house has gained significant cultural traction, known for its avant-garde silhouettes, artistic collaborations, and a renewed emphasis on artisanal techniques. The brand is also committed to supporting contemporary craft through the annual Loewe Foundation Craft Prize, an initiative that underscores its core values. Loewe's modern identity is a dialogue between its storied Spanish heritage and Anderson's forward-thinking, intellectually vibrant creative direction.
