Founded in Zürich in 2021 by Laura Beham and Callum Pidgeon, both alumni of Vetements, Prototypes challenges fashion’s endless cycle of newness with its focus on upcycling and repurposing. The brand transforms pre-existing materials—such as deadstock fabrics, decommissioned uniforms, and vintage sportswear—into conceptually driven, avant-garde silhouettes. Core to its identity is the painstaking process of deconstructing and reconstructing source garments, giving new life to discarded items like football jerseys and military surplus. This approach is rooted in a desire to make the fashion system more sustainable, a principle the founders extend by offering free "Proto Packs," which are DIY manuals and sewing patterns that allow consumers to replicate the brand's designs at home.
